'Aaba' (grandpa) is what we called him. He was our guide at Pratapgad (a fort) near Satara, India. This 72 year old man was very cute, enthusiastic and a sort of babbler. Behind this facade, I felt he is an untiring, experienced, self-seeker trying to make ends meet. This effervescent person made our trip very joyful and memorable. Thanks to him.

Tried these two landscapes from Artist David Bellamy's book "Painting wild landscapes"

The small blob you see in the first painting is due to mixing of ultramarine in cobalt blue of two different companies. They didn't mix well and created the mess :(

Padmabhushan awardee Tyeb Mehta passes away...

Born in 1925 in Gujarat, Mehta was initially working as a film editor before he decided to pursue art. In 1952, he got a diploma from the prestigious J J School of Art in Mumbai.
Mehta became a close associate of the Progressive Arts Group, a group of artists who drew stylistic inspiration from Western Modernism, during his education at the school.
He went on to work in London for five years between 1959 and 1964 and later obtained a Rockefeller Fellowship to travel to the USA in 1968, a journey which he said had influenced his style of painting...

The final strokes of the dark stripes were applied at the end. The surrounding area was painted green to create a feel of the wild. This completes my version of the Sumatran Tiger.

The faint tones were then added and then the dark tones of the water were applied

First I made a basic sketch and started with the eyes.

Sumatran tiger is smaller than the Indian tiger. The tiger is known for its stripes, and the Sumatran tiger has stripes that are a little closer to each other than some other subspecies of tiger.

The Chihuahua dog breed is considered graceful, alert, and swift-moving. Though Chihuahuas are little dogs, they're hardly meek. Chihuahua dogs are often considered to have a "saucy" expression with overall terrier-like qualities. The Chihuahua breed's ultra-compact size has earned the nicknames "mini," "tiny toy," and "teacup."

The Chihuahua breed is widely thought a good dog for children because of the dogs' size. For the same reason, Chihuahuas are thought suitable dogs to share an apartment with :-)

I read this somewhere- If you dream of admiring well-shaped feminine legs, you will lose your judgement, and act very silly over some fair charmer.

Interesting! To me legs signify strength, fitness, beauty, sex appeal. What's more attractive, sexy and enticing than a strong pair of feminine legs with perfectly shaped thighs crossed high. Instantly, transporting your mind into the world of fantasy. Wouldn't it be great to know those legs? to stroke them, to want them, admire them, protect them. They could control not just the imagination but the reality!

Valentine de Kerven

Madame Valentine de Kerven was a remarkable woman in her own right. Born in Switzerland in August 1901, she was the daughter of a famous brain surgeon Swiss brain surgeon (after whom the deKerven's Syndrome is named). Her grandfather was a clergyman. Valentine left Switzerland for Paris at the age of eighteen, to lead an independent life. She was never a believer in any religious doctrine and was a revolutionary in more ways than one.
Valentine belonged to a group of artists and writers. She was interested in photography and modern art and was an active member of a French experimental theater group. She became closely associated with the poet-philosopher, Antonin Artaud, who was also an anarchist. She used to design costumes as well. She was a trained nurse too and worked with the Red Cross in Switzerland during and after the War.
Valentine lived openly with a male friend, which in those days was considered a social offence. She and her friend were the first to cross the uncharted Sahara desert on motorcycles. She was also the first woman to wear pants in Paris. She made a documentary on gypsies and was the first female film producer in France. Her production company was called "de Kerven Films".
She made an unsuccessful attempt to join the fight against Franco and the Fascists in Spain. In the Fifties, she drove from Switzerland to India, a trip which turned out to be the first of many she would make.
She was a close companion of the iconoclastic philosopher U.G.Krishnamurti till her end. Valentine passed away peacefully on 20 January 1991.

Sumi-e : Chinese Black Ink Painting

Bamboo has a deeper meaning in Chinese culture. Bamboo represents the aspects to a true noble gentleman. Bamboo is straight (honest), and Chinese people also believe that bamboo represents the modesty, strength, and it never gives up because it continues to grow taller and taller. All of the traits of a good man.

Sumi-e means: Black Ink Painting. Black ink on white paper. Simple, elegant and serene. Simplicity is the most outstanding characteristic of Sumi-e. An economy of brush strokes are used to communicate the essence of the subject.

Koi are ornamental domesticated varieties of the common carp- Cyprinus carpio, originated from China and widely spread in Japan. They are very closely related to goldfish, and in fact the style of breeding and ornamentation has become very similar, probably through the efforts of Japanese breeders to emulate goldfish, but they are not goldfish. Koi and tattoos of Koi are traditionally considered lucky.
The word "koi" comes from Japanese. The original Japanese word koi simply means "carp," including both the dull grey fish and the brightly colored varieties. A homonym of koi means 'love, affection' and koi are therefore symbols of love and friendship.
